Weather in January

Paphos is a wonderful place to visit no matter what time of year it is but it has to be said that some activities are more suited to certain times of the year. As Cyprus has a very warm Mediterranean climate, the summers are very hot and dry and the winter can be varied with hot and cold weather and some rain. Winter is known as the rainy season and you can expect at least 6 days of rain per month. You can also expect quite a number of sunny days too. Temperatures vary from between 10 and 17 degrees Celsius.

January in Paphos is one of my favourite times of the year and there are a number of activities that you can do, my favourite being skiing. The Troodos Mountains get snow in the winter which means they are the perfect location for a skiing holiday. You can go skiing in the morning and then sun yourself by the pool or on the beach in the afternoon sun. The Troodos Mountains are where you will find Mount Olympus and there are a number of skiing resorts and ski schools located here too.

You can also visit most of the tourist attractions as these are open all year round. They may be a little quieter in January but this way you can look around without there being a crowd. Some great places to visit include the Tomb of the Kings, the Paphos Mosaics, Aphrodites Rock, St. George Fishing Harbour, and Sterna Winery.

There is also the Agios Neofytos Days which are celebrated every year on the 24th and 25th January. The Agios Neofytos Monastery was founded at the end of the 12th century by Cypriot hermit and writer Neofytos and every January there is a two day traditional fair held here where you can see Cypriot crafts, foods, and monastic goods for sale. You can also enjoy some live music as well.

If you intend to take a break from the cold winter of home or partake in some skiing then why not come and visit Paphos during January, there is plenty to do and you won’t be disappointed with the weather either.
