December in Paphos
December in Paphos is one of my favourite times of the year. The Troodos Mountains are covered in snow and there are a number of ski slopes that you can use right through until March. The Troodos Mountains are home Mount Olympus and there are a number of ski holiday locations here.
December means winter but winters in Paphos are not too cold and the temperatures are normally between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius throughout the day. The winter months are however the rainy months in Paphos and during December and January you can expect to see about 10 inches of rain.
If you visit Paphos during the month of December you can expect to get on average 6 hours of bright sunshine each day. Whilst many of the Mediterranean locations will close during this time before the summer season begins again Cyprus is an exception. This island remains open all year round and in Paphos you can expect to find the bars and restaurants open as well as the museums and tourist destinations.
Many events are also held during the winter and the Troodos Mountains have some very popular skiing resorts where you can ski in the morning and sun yourself by the pool or on the beach in the afternoon. The snow on Mount Olympus is magnificent and a great way to spend a winter morning. Other outdoor activities can also be enjoyed and there are a number of excursions that you can take.
If you are visiting Paphos during the month of December you are advised to bring some winter clothing although heavy coats will not be necessary. December may be quiet at the beach but on the slopes everything is full of life.
If skiing is something that you have always wanted to try and you want to combine it with some sunshine and the sea then Paphos is definitely the place to be. It is steeped in history with some amazing places to visit and there is some excellent skiing that you can avail of too. You can learn to ski, sunbathe, visit historical sites, shop, eat, drink, and everything else you would expect from a holiday.
